What is Havening?
Addressing Emotional Challenges
There are many ways in which fear, anxiety and stress impact our lives, and that of those around us, too. Some sufferers hide their emotions and feelings. Others vent their frustration.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Below are some examples of what could be helped with Havening®.
Conquering Phobias
Whether it’s a fear of flying, creepy-crawlies or a fear of confined spaces, Havening Techniques® can help diminish these fears effectively. Sometimes phobias develop from a physical experience, and sometimes they can be learned from parental fear or witnessing third-party stories. They’re all rational to the sufferer, but with Havening®, the fear can be overcome.
Overcoming PTSD
Havening® can help reduce the impact of traumatic memories, offering a path to healing for those suffering from PTSD. Enabling the brain to respond logically to a sensation through Havening, can allow sufferers to regain confidence in their lives.
Coping with Bereavement
Sometimes a bereavement comes with associated feelings of helplessness, pain and loss that just don’t diminish and leaves a sufferer with feelings such as guilt, perpetual sadness, tiredness, tearfulness and unwarranted self-blame long after the bereavement itself. Havening® can help to reduce or remove the self-blame.
Managing Exam Nerves
Examinations are a necessary part of learning, but are frequently viewed with such stress that a candidate can feel overwhelmed, inadequate, underprepared and even physically ill. Sometimes a phobia can develop around exams. Havening® can be used to both remove those anxious feelings and can also be self-applied by candidates to help focus and strengthen their confidence.
Building Confidence
There are times when we all have doubts about our own abilities to do something new, but when those doubts actually prevent you from doing those activities, time and time again, it’s time to apply some Havening Touch®. Reluctance to engage with colleagues, avoiding making presentations, avoidance of social events.
Pain Relief
Sometimes there is no physical cause for a persistent pain a sufferer experiences, and this can be debilitating.
It has been shown that the sensations caused by pain could originate from a past trauma, and even continue after physical healing. Although still a developing area, Havening® shows a promising tool for pain relief.
Understanding Havening Therapy®

The Science
Our brains are programmed to look for danger and protect us by triggering a fight, flight or freeze reaction to a dangerous or harmful event or condition. That programming occurs throughout our lives and is memorised as a “trauma”.
The brain effectively posts, and locks into place receptors, the equivalent of “lookouts”, to identify this danger in future so it can take action.
Unfortunately sights, smells, and sounds that might have been present at the original event can also trigger an unwanted defensive response.
The Havening® Process
The process involves soothing touch on the face, arms, and hands and visualisation techniques, which help to create a safe mental space.
There is no need for a Client to share what is troubling them or to talk at length through a painful event or feeling. This helps with a feeling of still keeping control and can avoid difficulties where confidential or private information might be shared.
The parallel release of calming and natural neurochemicals through the Havening Touch® enables the receptors to switch off and allow the brain to logically process the information it receives. The unwanted response no longer needs to happen.

Peter Francis
Peter Francis has a unique background as a chartered engineer. with an interest in human behaviour in relation to industrial processes and equipment. His journey into Havening Therapy® began after an unexpected discussion with a childhood friend, when he recognized its potential to address emotional challenges with an engineering mindset. Peter’s approach is rooted in compassion and scientific understanding, aiming to provide quick and lasting relief without discomfort. He’s passionate about integrating Havening® into workplace environments, to enhance productivity and well-being by helping individuals release their anxieties with fewer barriers to that help.
Peter's Vision
Throughout my engineering career, my focus has always been on teasing out problems and helping to find lasting solutions to them, while using the tools, skills and equipment already to hand if possible.
Havening Techniques® is very similar in that it requires investigative skills to find the root of an emotional problem and then using a carefully-considered approach to gently remove the effects and responses to it with long-lasting effect.
Not only do I love to see individuals finally release long-standing anxieties, but I really believe that bringing the confidence-enhancing aspects of Havening® into workplaces will further help employers to access support for their key staff without some of the stigma.
What Our Clients Say
“We’re over the moon. Just one session with Peter transformed my daughter’s social outlook and ability to cope alone.”
“I’d never heard of Havening Techniques before, so I read up about it. It sounded too good to be true.
But now a bereavement from 15 years ago no longer causes me a panic attack, but just feels like a sad event that happened in the past!”
“I suffered from an abusive relationship, and still felt I was a target, and couldn’t protect my child. After an online session with Peter, I know that I can’t change the past, but what I do and have done is enough for my child and I don’t have to keep looking over my shoulder anymore”
